Millions of gamblers tried to win consistently on the roulette. Some of them got that good at it that they became world famous.
Joseph Jagger
Joseph Jagger was a engeneer who thought the roulette couldn’t be in perfect balance and thus some numbers would show up more frequent.
In 1873 he went to the Monte Carlo Casino and observed carefully the numbers that won of the roulettes. After looking at the results, he saw that a few numbers won more frequently.
In the three days after that he had won 60,000 pounds, an amazing sum of money in his days. The casino wasn’t so excited as Jagger and started to switch the roulettes with roulettes of other places every once in a while.
It became more difficult to win and and Jagger went back home. There he gave up his job as engeneer and invested his fortune wisely in real estate.
The Eudaemon Group
Ever since more advanced technology became available gamblers started using it. The Eudaemons were professional gamblers: a group of physics students with the goal of winning money with roulette to fund a scientific society.
After 2 years of research they had come up with a small machine that could calculate where in the roulette the ball would stop.
In 1978 they drove to Las Vegas to try it out, but they had to quit abruptly because the playing group member received electrical shocks caused by a malfunction in the device. Unfortunately: because on each and every dollar they won about 45%. The group fell apart and made ‘just’ 10,000 dollars.
Gonzalo Garcia-Pelayo
In the 1990′s about the same technique was used in the casino of Madrid. Together with some of his family members Gonzalo betted on the outcome a computer forecasted. They went unnoticed for various years and won more than a million dollars.
They were accused of cheating by the casino… and the Garcia-Pelayo family won.
The Most fearless Roulette Gambler – Ashley Revell
A man with a simpler strategy was the poker pro Revell. In 2004 he sold everything he possessed (including underwear) and went to Vegas to double the money on a single game of roulette. The entire experience was broadcasted on British TV.
The viewers of the TV show said he should bet on red… So he did: $135,300 could be won or lost. When the wheel stopped turning around the winning number turned out to be red. With the winnings he started his own pokersite.
Also in 2004, a woman and two Serbian men won 1.3 million pound in the Ritz Casino in London. They made use of a cellphone with built-in laser to track the ball in the roulette. Soon after they got arrested on suspicion of cheating. But were released later and got all their money back.
