Through a contest held in 1965, out of 19,843 entries submitted with over a thousand different names, the Miami Dolphins name was attained.Mariners, Marauders, Mustangs, Missiles, Moons, Sharks, and Suns were the names considered.Dolphins was the winning name with 622 entrants.
The logo’s and uniforms remained the same since the founding of the team.It was only in 1997 that the navy was added as a trim color, but the aqua and coral were the original team’s color. The Dolphin’s logo consists of a sunburst with a leaping dolphin wearing a football helmet bearing the letter M.To give a substantial revision, the the sunburst was simplified and the dolphin was darkened and given a more serious game-face expression in 1997.Featured uniforms by the Miami Dolphins were white helmets with either white or aqua jerseys and either white or aqua pants.
The team’s fight song was written and composed by Lee Ofman and is played once at every home game at the end of the third quarter.
Headed by Leslie Nixon and Sergio Xiques in April 2010, the first Volunteer ProgramNFL jacket was promoted by the Dolphins.To enlist and mobilize the ongoing services of the community with the Dolphins staff, players and alumni, thus the Volunteer Program was created.To offer hands-on services to communities and families in need; To partner with existing organizations on worthwhile social, civic and charitable programs; To provide assistance at Miami Dolphins Foundation events; and To support community efforts in times of emergency, are the missions of their Volunteer Program.The Miami Dolphins has already contributed 40,000 hours of community service to the South Florida community.
