The Kings finally had made its bow to end the NHL season after winning the game against San Jose Sharks in the Western Conference Season Semi-Finals. For nine months Kings Tickets were sold out and a season of battling to the finals. During the fourth game, the Kings lost its clench to the best of 7 series. It may be a mishap for this year’s season but we are all hopeful that the incoming season will be a good head on start. To think that they have almost made its way to the finals, it gave a good sign for the team but not better to make it through the Championships. Next season would be the best time to correct and fill in the gaps to whatever the reasons for this season’s adversities.
Here are a few unexpected adversities that happened in this season:
1. Injured Players –. Justin Williams suffered from an injury to his shoulder and said to may be able to comeback by the month of May. Anze Kopitar who led the Kings with 25 goals and 47 assists for 72 points and was a plus-24 was left with an injury on his right ankle after a battling Colorado Avalanche defenseman Ryan O’Byrne on March 26 which made him miss 6 weeks for the season. Both players are first and second team’s assets.
2. Drew Doughty was culminated with a Norris Trophy nomination as one of the league’s top blue liners in the year 2009-2010 but recently after a head concussion during the fifth game against the Hurricanes, Doughty was sidelined in the next 5 games. He finished with 11 goals and 40 points during the regular season, compared to 16 and 59 the year before. His shooting percentage dropped from 11.3 to 7.9, and his plus-minus rating slipped from plus-20 to plus-13. Which could have had made a great impact to the Kings.
3. Sad to say, Dustin Penner did pretty much nothing to help the Kings down the stretch and into the playoffs. He went upto 15 games without scoring a single point, he even stalled the plays during the games they played against the Sharks, especially on the winning shot at game 3, and he never made efforts to get back into his position. Dustin Penner’s $ 4.2 M dollars contract is not going to end sooner. Even then, these mishaps didn’t hinder the people to buy Kings Tickets so as the Kings who didn’t give up.
Hopefully, next year would be the best year for the Kings as they may have learned from the mistakes of this year. We hope for all the best to all the players of LA Kings. For Doughty, Kopitar, and Williams we hope they would recover soonest and be at full shape on the start of the next season. To Penner, we hope we would see improvement on his game play and prove his defensive potentials. It’s great to learn from this season and hope to see you all guys on the next season!
