Being a boastful Penn State alumni, enthusiastic Penn State sports fan, and regular football game attendee in Happy Valley, I have the actual Nittany Lion football game day routine down to pretty much a science. I tried it so often that I can virtually let you know minute by minute the actual planning and routine I go through with my family. Everything leads up to my personal favorite events of the year: Penn State football games.
There are 7 days annually which i absolutely adore. Those are the 7 home games which Penn State plays football at State College, Pennsylvania. I have already been going to these types of games since I was in college, and its simply been the routine for me and my family for several years. I do not skip a game if at all possible.
Going to a game in Happy Valley is actually special. The atmosphere is as good as it will get in college football. State College, Pennsylvania is actually right in the middle of the state of Pennsylvania, and as you come down into town, it feels like everybody in the state is actually arriving there with you. You certainly believe way whenever you arrive within the parking lots and see the actual RVs and tailgaters as far as the eye can see.
My routine begins early on in the morning as I get myself and my family dressed in Penn State apparel. Personally, I never attend PSU football games without putting on my lucky Penn State football jersey. Because I love to sit down within or close to the college student area, and they have the custom associated with putting on white for the Penn State “White Out” effect, I’ve got a white Penn State football jersey. My wife has a Penn State ladies jersey and my kids have Penn State youth jerseys.
However the gear doesn’t stop with jerseys, as there is plenty more. In the event that it is cold, we might layer up with a Penn State sweatshirt too. A fleece one is ideal if it is a cold late in the season game. White, blue, or even grey Penn State sweatshirts tend to be good too, I’ve got them all in my clothing collection. My family and I additionally have PSU hats, t-shirts, and overcoats, so what ever Penn State gear is required for that day’s condition, we have.
Next, all of us stock up the car with tailgating gear. The most important items are the basic: chairs, barbeque grill, coolers, meals, and drinks. I’ve got a Penn State Chair which I’ve had forever which i bring to every game, and I personally use it extensive prior to and after games. We have about a two hr drive to State College, so all of us usually depart about 6-7 hours prior to kick-off.
We have had exactly the same parking spot within State College for several years, and it is where all of us tail gate with our other Penn State enthusiasts. We like to get there early to set up the actual barbeque grill, tables, chairs, and some games (we love to play corn hole). Fortunately, we have other tailgaters having a portable satellite television dish and Tvs so that we can view all of the afternoon college football games (particularly Big 10 games) while preparing for the large game.
The most important part of tailgating is actually socializing with friends, but meals preparation and consumption is important too. We turn up the actual barbeque grill early and ensure that it stays going all day long. Generally several types of meats get tossed on, personally I like any kind of red meat to go with my adult drink during tailgating. Don’t forget to have ample ice and mixers.
Tailgating is actually fun, but I always help remind everybody that the key reason we’re there is for the game. I love to be within Beaver Stadium 20 minutes prior to kick-off. This enables me personally to soak in all the pre-game festivities, such as the clubs running out on the field, Joe Paterno’s entry, and the actual incredible sound associated with 100,000 fans screaming “Let’s Go….Penn State”.
These are my personal favorite 7 days of the year.
