What is Lay Betting?

Lay betting is a concept that is not easily understood by all gamblers. This is because most betters have a difficult time understanding they will no longer be trying to determine which horse will win the race. However, lay betting flips this scenario and presents the opportunity for the gambler to try to determine which horse, or horses, will lose.

Picking a losing horse is not as easy as it sounds.Sure there is only one winning horse and the rest are losers but this does not make lay betting easy.In fact the process of Lay betting may not be as easy as it appears. The process of lay betting with success will be discussed in this article. You are likely familiar with more traditionally forms of betting where you place your bet on the horse you expect to win the race.

The horse you are betting on must win the race in this type of traditional sytem. However, when you place a lay bet you put yourself in a much better position.Instead of betting on a winner you bet on a loser when you place a lay bet. This means if any of the other horses in the race is the winner, you will also be a winner.

When you first think about it you may be inclined to think picking a losing horse is much easier than picking a winning horse. This may be so but there are also many other factors to consider in a lay betting sytem. The odds against each of the horses should be an important consideration in a lay betting sytem. In general you should not lay bet when the odds are greater than 5/1.Preferably you should not place a lay bet unless the odds are 5/1 or less. This can be difficult to understand because your chances of winning a lay bet increase when the odds are greater against your horse, however, these odds can really cause problems for you if the horse does manage to win.

When the odds against your horse are lower you have some financial protection in case there is an upset and your horse wins the race. This type of protection is extremely important because in the even that you lose this type of high odds bet you could be faced with owing a great deal of money.
